I grew up atop a horse.
The rhythm of hoofbeats are as familiar to me as my own heartbeat. My earliest memories are of clinging to the saddle, my tiny hands gripping the reins while the world swayed gently beneath me.
As I grew older, I gained a level of confidence that can only be achieved after countless falls out of a saddle and the nerve to get back on. A self-confidence that came from years of willingness to straddle a thousand pound animal and not let the danger intimidate me.
Horseback riding was not just a hobby – it was the foundation of my passion for veterinary medicine. From a young age, I saw the profound impact of care and expertise that a veterinarian has on their four legged (and sometimes limbless) patients.
I dedicated years studying pre-veterinary medicine at Texas Tech University. During this time, I worked at a veterinary clinic as a receptionist and part-time intern. I also volunteered as a undergraduate research assistant and as a teaching assistant for Domestic Animal Anatomy. To gain more experience, I completed a certification in artificial insemination of livestock.
For years, I was devoted to successfully passing courses such as Organic Chemistry, Animal Disease, and Microbiology. I also was a committed volunteer at a local animal rescue in my college town.
My transition from the world of science and medicine to the art of writing and communications has been a journey. I made the choice to swap my stethoscope for semicolons, diving into the world of technical writing and professional communications.
I graduated from Texas Tech University with a bachelors of science in Animal Science and a minor in Technical Communications. With a new passion for blending my scientific background, knack for storytelling, and untangling complexities.
Currently, I am a student at the University of North Texas’s Toulose Graduate School, studying Technical Communications. I have successfully passed courses in technical writing and editing, document design, content strategy, and digital literacies.
As I await the opportunity to enter into the professional sphere I have honed my interpersonal skills in both the retail and restaurant industry. As a manager at a major retailer, I mastered competencies in communication, leadership, and problem solving. Working in a busy restaurant has given me the expertise in teamwork, adaptability, and attention to detail.
When I am not working or completing schoolwork, you can find me writing fan fiction. I have found my own community of off-the-clock writers in the world of fan fiction, where I have learned how to craft engaging narratives, build complex characters, and captivate readers.
As unconventional as my journey has been, I’m still the little girl who grew up atop a horse. Anytime I’ve fallen out of the saddle, I stand back up and try again.
